ACTION OHIO welcomes individual community volunteers. Please complete a Volunteer Application Form (mail to Action Ohio) and find out more about becoming involved. After submitting your application to ACTION OHIO, you will be scheduled for an interview and orientation on the dynamics of domestic violence. You will meet our Volunteer Coordinators and learn about ACTION OHIO’s current needs for volunteer help. You will also have the chance to tell us about your strengths and accomplishments. Our goal is to find a volunteer opportunity that utilizes your strengths and provides you with a rewarding experience. If you belong to a club or organization, you might present or arrange for a program on domestic violence for the members and distribute ACTION OHIO brochures and safety cards. If you enjoy attending community functions, you might staff an information table at a health fair or special event in your own neighborhood or apartment complex. If you enjoy fundraising activities, you might join a committee and work with others to organize a yard sale and sell gently used items to generate dollars for resources for DV victims or service providers. ACTION OHIO welcomes community groups whose members want to volunteer as a group, Together we can discuss your ideas and our needs and then plan a project that matches your group’s desire to do good works with our efforts to help victims and their children and prevent future family violence. There are many more ideas regarding how you can help. It all depends on the time you have to give, your employment and volunteer experiences, and the talents you’re willing to share. ACTION OHIO welcomes your contributions to The Grayce Williams Memorial Fund, to support our public policy, legislative work. All funds are used for educational purposes, enabling you to deduct the donation from your income tax. You may choose to memorialize a special person in your life. Donor acknowledgement and recognition for your honoree will be included in our Tribute Book, published in the fall in conjunction with National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. ACTION OHIO welcomes your financial support for our Voiceless Victims Project, connecting human violence with animal cruelty. Research confirms that human violence often co-exists with animal cruelty. Tormenting and killing family pets may be a means of inflicting emotional pain and controlling another’s behavior. The project involves identifying agencies or foster homes to care for pets when battered victims seek refuge at a shelter, where pets are not permitted. Once we have compiled a resource list of Ohio’s pet care possibilities, we will create a brochure listing temporary foster care options for victims’ pets throughout Ohio. The PETCO Foundation has awarded ACTION OHIO $500 as seed money for this project. You can help make this brochure for victims and their pets a reality.
